by Bob on May.09, 2010, under Announcements
Have you recently received an email from donate [at] southlandtvfans.com, of the dreaded Spam variety? If so, we sincerely apologize, but it was not sent by us! An unscrupulous group of detestable people, apparently located out of Poland and operating from the Chello Broadband ISP, have sent a blast of spam emails out using our email as the “From:” address.
Sadly, the internet being what it is, there isn’t much we can do about it. I have reported the emails to the ISP – on the off chance that they are legitimate and will actually do something about the problem. Of course, that does nothing for our reputation in general.
Update 5/15: I have, as of this moment, completely killed the address that was (and is being) used to send out these spams. The email address used for our Donations has been changed and is now hidden behind the Donation button securely, using the latest in PayPal tools. I will also be going through the entire website over the coming days (or weeks, if necessary) to remove ALL plain text references to email addresses. If you need to contact us, then use the Contact link at the top of every page, or remember that you are looking for support + what our website address is.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of our Privacy Policy:
1. We will NEVER send an unsolicited email to you – period. For any reason. Not even just to say “Hi” or create a newsletter.
2. If we do ever (re)create a newsletter, it is something you will have to opt-in to. You won’t be sent it automatically.
3. We DO NOT share account information outside the bounds described in the Privacy Policy, and even that information is extremely limited.
4. If we do send emails, they will come from the aforementioned support address.
If you ever have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me using the Contact link at the top of any page, or that support address.
Bob, your faithful & devoted SouthlandTvFans.com Webmaster
p.s. Why don’t we have or use a “webmaster” or “postmaster” email address? Simple: We use Google Apps to provide our email (and many other) services. It is free and extremely powerful, plus it lets us provide a limited number of Google Mail accounts to our supporters, among other things. However, when you use Google Apps, they TAKE the ‘webmaster’ and ‘postmaster’ email addresses for themselves and you are not able to get any email at those addresses, no matter what. Yes, it is a complete violation of Internet protocols to do so, but what can we do? It’s a great free service and it is their mail servers, so …. we adapt.
p.p.s. For any Techies out there who care, YES, we do have SPF records on ALL our domains. They are very specific and limited to JUST the Google MX hosts (required when using Google Mail/Apps) and our own /28 IP block. Now, if only other idiots running mail servers would configure them to actually check those SPF records, this would not be an issue.
Happy Birthday Lexi

by Bob on May.05, 2010, under About Southland
Following the news of SouthLAnd‘s renewal for a 3rd season by TNT late last month, even more countries have now picked up the critically acclaimed show, including South Africa and Brazil.
In South Africa, SouthLAnd will air starting May 13th on the M-Net Action satellite network, at 7pm every Thursday. Based on the website for the network, this actually appears to be for the entire region of the southern African continent, not just the country of South Africa, as their satellite service is split into regions for South, West and East Africa. This is great news for the international exposure of SouthLAnd!
Also starting on June 3, SouthLAnd will be airing in Brazil on TVA Channel 20 and Sky Channel 58.
Both join the already existing lineup of international venues for the show, including Bulgaria (Pro.BG), Canada (SuperChannel), Germany (Kabel1) and Iceland (Stöð 2) which just premiered on April 6th. Other countries that previously aired SouthLAnd and may still air reruns of the 1st two seasons include Italy (AXN), France (Orange), Norway (TV Norge), Sweden (Tv3), Portugal (Fox Portugal) and Turkey (DiziMax). The More4 channel in the United Kingdom aired Season 1 of SouthLAnd but has not yet announced any plans to air Season 2, but still retains the rights to the show.
With this latest round of new distribution, combined with the renewal by TNT for a 3rd season, we can hold out hope for even more countries to be added to the list. In particular, I know of more than a few people who are hoping for sooner rather than later in Spain and Japan.
We’re keeping our fingers crossed for you!
