Loaded Gun: Tom Everett Scott will unveil ‘Southland’ in Boston
by Bob on Dec.31, 2009, under Cast, Events
From Loaded Gun Boston:
For up-and-coming actor Tom Everett Scott, there’s no place like home.
The East Bridgewater-bred native is slotted to unveil the first episode of the new season of his acclaimed cop show “Southland” at an exclusive bash at Ned Devine’s Parris Room located at Faneuil Hall from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7.
Scott, known for his break-out role in “That Thing You Do!” as well as parts in “Boiler Room” and “Saved,” is making the return trek to the Boston area to celebrate the show’s move from NBC to TNT. The revamped series is slotted to begin airing the first 13 episodes with an extended version of the explosive pilot scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 12.
The “Southland” run on TNT includes six brand-new episodes, which are set to hit the small screen on Tuesday, March 2.
“Southland” is a raw, authentic look at police work in Los Angeles that takes viewers inside the lives of cops, criminals, victims and their families.
In the series, Scott co-stars as Det. Russell Clarke, who is struggling with an unhappy marriage and a difficult living situation.
Besides its obvious ties to homeboy Scott, “Southland” is helmed by Emmy-winning producer John Wells. For those in the know, Wells wrapped filming in Boston on Saturday, June 6 with the downsizing drama “The Company Men,” starring Ben Affleck, Kevin Costner, Maria Bello, Tommy Lee Jones and Rosemarie DeWitt.
As previously reported in Loaded Gun Boston, Wells will screen the made-in-Boston drama about three company men attempting to survive a round of corporate downsizing while trying to fend off its effects on their families and their identities at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010.

At long last, dignity for the under-40 professional set

Regina King as Detective Lydia Adams on Southland. Adams is calm, competent and compassionate without being clumsy, or adorably clueless about boys, or constantly stuffing chocolate in her maw. In other words, nobody making Southland saw a professional woman as a threat to anyone’s masculinity. So Adams was allowed to have her authority and her struggles with the same matter-of-fact respect that male professionals routinely get on cop shows throughout the ages.
Naturally, NBC decided they couldn’t be having with this, and that is why Southland is going to be airing on TNT as of January 12, 2010.
Meet ‘Southland’ actor Michael Cudlitz at exclusive screening party in Chicago

Michael Cudlitz as Officer John Cooper
By Curt Wagner from the Show Patrol on ChicagoNow.com
When NBC canceled “Southland,” fans of the gritty crime drama set in L.A. were relieved to hear that TNT saved the show and will begin airing it on the cable network at 9 p.m. Jan. 12 with an extended version of the series pilot.
As part of the roll-out for the acclaimed series–which I happened to love–TNT is giving Chicago fans a chance to meet Michael Cudlitz, who plays veteran cop John Cooper, and to watch a never-aired episode. The exclusive “Southland” screening party and Cudlitz Q&A session takes place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Jan. 6 at the Hotel Sax’s Crimson Lounge, 333 N. Dearborn St.
I’ll be moderating the Q&A session with Cudlitz, so come on down and meet the both of us. To earn entry into the party, you need to send an e-mail to southlandchicago@gmail.com with “SHOW PATROL” in the subject line.
“Southland,” starring Cudlitz, Ben McKenzie, Regina King, Tom Everett Scott, Kevin Alejandro and Shawn Hatosy, follows the officers, detectives and gang unit officers who work in L.A.’s rough Southland neighborhood. TNT will air seven episodes previously seen on NBC, as well as six never-aired episodes. If the show does well, TNT may order more episodes. Read my old review of “Southland” here. I’ve attached TNT’s description of the series below:
Veteran Los Angeles cop John Cooper (Michael Cudlitz) is assigned to train rookie Ben Sherman (Ben McKenzie “The OC”) who finds himself questioning whether he has the right stuff to be a police officer after witnessing Cooper’s no-nonsense approach. Other members of the police team include Detective Lydia Adams (Regina King), who is her mother’s primary caregiver away from the office; her partner, Russell Clarke (Tom Everett Scott), an unhappily married father of three; Detective Daniel ”Sal” Salinger (Kevin Alejandro), who oversees gang detectives Nate Moretta and Sammy Bryant; and patrol officer Chickie Brown, a single mother who dreams of joining the SWAT team.
